R2-A3, R5-K6, R2-F2
These three droids are bart of a Toys R Us exclusive 3-pack released in 2016. Two of them use the same mold as the previously released R2-D2, with the third sporting a new head.
The three droids are from the Star Wars canon, appearing for brief moments in the films or canon expanded universe.
The three droids are:
R2-A3
R2-A3 is Wedge Antilles’ astromech. He was installed in Wedge’s X-Wing during the Battle of Yavin.
Being essentially a repaint of R2-D2, this droid has all the gimmicks of the previous release, but with much better fit and finish. It has the opening panels on the front, the removable head panels, with sensor scope attachments, and the descending third leg.
R5-K6
R5-K6 was the astromech of pilot Garven Dries, leader of Red Squadron on the Battle of Yavin. Sadly, R5-K6 was destroyed along with his fighter over the Death Star.
The body is the same as any other R2 unit, but the head is new. It’s the first time this head has been used, and this likely foreshadows a R5-D4 in the future. The head has no removable panels, but does have a nice shimmering holographic sticker around it’s circumference.
R2-F2
Another casualty of the Battle of Yavin was Luke Skywalker’s childhood friend, Biggs Darklighter. Biggs, along with his astromech R2-F2, were destroyed in the battle over the Death Star.
Again, this is the same mold as R2-D2, but with a very different color scheme.
At $65, it’s actually more expensive than three Black Series figures on their own. However Astromechs are very popular, and people never complain about repaints. You can never have enough. So they are sort of getting away with charging more for the same product, but it’s the only way you can get these figures in this scale.
