Raideen
I’ve gotten to the point in my Raideen collection that very little surprises me anymore. So when something unusual does pop up, I get really excited. Such is the case with this Raideen.
Perhaps it just escaped my notice, or maybe I was living under a rock, but I had never seen this Raideen vinyl before. I got it in a lot of random stuff and upon closer inspection realized I didn’t already have it.
This Raideen is notable for it’s rather long head sculpt. It’s not at all anime accurate, and rather homely. The proportions are all off.
Articulation is limited to the arms and waist. The paint spray is rough but adequate.
So who made it? When was it made? The giant “P” logo gives us a clue – Popy.
Popy used this logo later in its lifespan so it was likely made in the early 80s. I’m guessing 1982.
Was it sold bagged or carded? Also in this lot is a header card, and a bit of cardboard packaging. Were these from its original package? Who knows. There’s no definitive reference yet of all these mini vinyls that were produced.
That’s all I know. Another mystery. If you see this figure bagged or carded, please leave a comment or send me an email.
