Raideen
While this may look like a vintage toy, it was actually released in 2015 by Medicom. They’ve recently been releasing vintage-style super robot vinyls sculpted by Tooru Abe for their Dynamite Collection (ダイナマイトなコレクション) series of toys.
Raideen was a web shop exclusive, and came shipped bagged with a header card.
The toy looks just like it stepped out of 1978. The goofy proportions and bright colors are spot-on. Really, the only thing missing from the sculpt is rivets.
Made out of soft vinyl, the toy has limited articulation. You get shoulders and waist, and that’s it.
The feet are stamped with the makers mark.
I love the detail on the face and the thickness of the overall head.
The point of a piece like this is not accuracy, nor is it articulation. It’s designed in such a way to evoke a nostalgic feeling, and Medicom nailed that feeling 100%.
