The Razor Crest

Original MSRP: 349.99

How does someone even tackle reviewing something like The Razor Crest? Back in the day I would have done a 17-part hi-def video of it an an encyclopedic tome on every little detail. But those days have passed, and I am largely writing this to myself to satisfy some OCD complex I have developed with toy collecting.

This thing took a year and a half to arrive, and I think it was worth it. At $350 it wasn’t cheap, and there are a few things they could have done better, but overall I am satisfied.

First, the box.

The Razor Crest

The outer box is nice. I’ll keep it as it protects the inner box. There was a ding on it though, and inside there’s a small crush on the corner. Ah well.

The box itself has a nice vintage style photo diorama, with the lineart style art on the other sides.

Inside the box is a big styrofoam coffin. You have to attach the wings, guns and landing gear or stand. Then you get to gaze at this behemoth. What a thing of beauty.

The Razor Crest

Let’s go over details as I photgraphed them. First off, there are a ton of removable panels to replicate the Jawas taking it apart during the first season.

The cockpit is removable and reveals a nice detailed control panel and seats. I would have loved for the cover to be hinged, even though it does not hinge in the show. It would just feel more like a toy. Also there’s nothing to secure Grogu on one of the seats, so he just sort of slides around.

The Razor Crest

The gun cabinet is nuts. Every one of these weapons had to be added by hand, including the thermal detonators. It’s positioned under the roof though, so getting my fat adult hands in there was a chore! I ended up using needle-nosed pliers to get them on their little pegs. They are never coming off.

The Razor Crest

There’s random cloth netting hanging from one of the walls – you see this sort of thing on cargo planes all the time, I assume to tie down loads.

The Razor Crest

This is the first star wars toy with a bathroom, or in Star Wars, I think they are called Refreshers. To the right is Grogu’s little bed area, and below that is a storage area, both have panels to hide the areas that can be removed. Again, this area is hard to access, and very dark due to the roof covering it. I would have made the removable roof panel longer to get easier access to these. Or added a light function.

The Razor Crest

The Carbon Freeze chamber opens and you can place one of the pre-frozen victims in there. Note that throughout this vehicle there is not a single foot peg. A shame.

The Razor Crest

If you remove the rear top panel you can reveal a hidden cannon. From a practicality standpoint, it sucks to have to blow off a panel to use it, but it would surprise attackers. I think this was just added on to give play value.

The display stand is sharp, and I like that it displays it at an angle. Landing gear has to be removed to use this stand. Yes, the landing gear does not store and needs to be removed.

The landing gear is fine though. I get that it would be difficult to design landing gear that would both be strong enough to hold this up and fold away for storage. The rear gear plugs in behind little panels that you open. Those panels have a tendency to pop off, and in some cases, break. The front landing gear has no panel. It just leaves a hole.

Nice little door on the side with pistons and an extending ramp.

The Razor Crest

Same thing on the back.

The Razor Crest

The engines have clear orange plastic that BEG to be illuminated. Alas, $350 does not get you lights and sound.

The Razor Crest

Hidden on the top is an escape pod. I think this is another “play value” add-on but I would have much rather had foot pegs and lights than this. It does make for good weapon storage for Mando.

Speaking of Mando, he comes loose – no worries about taking him off the card. He’s got a nice cloth cape in this version.

You get four frozen bounties that can attach to the roof like slabs of meat at a butcher. They tend to fall off if you bump them, but it’s a cool feature.

The Razor Crest

The Razor Crest

With the lid off the inside is spacious, but again, does not go far enough back to access the Refresher area. There’s a ladder for the one-story vehicle, and again, no foot pegs on that vast floor.

The Razor Crest

Also included with the set are a bunch of hanging bags that you can hang from the walls. There’s way more than there needs to be. You also get a Carded Jawa and Grogu that are exclusive to this set.

There may be more to talk about, but I think that’s enough. Enjoy!
