Reboost
As I reach the end of my G1 collecting, I have more affinity for the Diaclone and MicroChange robots that inspired them. Prices are out of control on those original figures, but I can express my Diaclone love with these versions of Transformers Masterpiece that pay homage to those iconic toys. MP-54 Reboost is a recolor of Skids that is a tribute to the original Diaclone Honda City, now named Reboost.
This toy was originally offered in Japan and then made available through Hasbropulse and select retailers – including Fun.com

The outer box is for the US market, basically describing what’s inside. It’s thinner than the usual Masterpiece boxes.
Inside is the original Japanese box, which is a thing of beauty.
Inside, everything rests in a clear tray.
The car Reboost is based off of is a Honda City R. Introduced in 1981, the Honda City R was a compact car meant for use in the city, hence the name. This first version was sold with a foldable motor scooter called the Motorcompo. Takara modeled Car Robot No. 6 after the City R which came in Red and later Silver. This version also came with a little toy version of the Motorcompo. The mold was retooled in 1983 into the City Turbo, which later on became the Transformer Skids.
Car mode is tight and compact – It looks just like the classic car. The trunk, doors and hood all open.
In car mode, the trunk can store the weapons, or the Motorcompo scooter.
The scooter can fold up, but the wheels don’t move and the kickstand does not fold.
There’s a clear figure, sort of a holograph driver, that’s included. It’s not great – the limbs fall off constantly. You can also attempt to stuff it into the City. Yes I know it’s a Japanese car and the driver should be on the other side.
Watch the video for transformation instructions. It’s not hard to do, but the arms are a bit tricky to fold out.
Like most Masterpieces, articulation is great. They really do strike a great balance between aesthetics and movement.
Of course there are weapons. Reboost comes with three but like Skids can only hold two at a time. These weapons clip on to tabs on the arms.
The gun has a folding handle and folding barrel to enable it to be stored in the rear in car mode.
This one has a removable missile but it does not launch.
For some reason, I have four toys based on the Honda City.
This really makes me want to get back into collecting Masterpiece Transformers. Perhaps I will get only Diaclone homages? Thanks again to Fun.com for the review sample!
