Re-Gz

A lot of Assault Kingdom wave 4 revolves around Char’s Counterattack. Well, a lot being half of the wave plus an extra release that we’ll be sure to talk about in the near future. So in addition to a few new Zeon figures, we also get the Re-Gz! Char’s Counterattack was filled with neat mobile suits that as a kid I was super into, and one of the ones I was most curious about was the blue thing that looked like a Jegan but also had a backpack. I never remembered the darn name of it though because I didn’t know how to pronounce it at the time. Later did I learn however that it’s pronounced exactly how it’s spelled!

The almost periwinkle blue of the Re-Gz is a color that you’ll see throughout the rest of this wave and I love it. It’s such a lovely shade that’s just pleasant to look at. Aside from the color though, the figure it self looks excellent although it’s missing a few shades of red and yellow to really make it pop.

I’ve always loved the Re-Gz’s head. It’s so close to almost being a Gundam!

As you can see here, the Re-Gz passes the dalong.net standard of articulation quite well. It also features the swingout ankle joints I love so much, though I honestly don’t use them very much on this figure.

It’s also worth noting that this figure has hinged shoulder pads instead of the usual clip on piece. Also the back fin and move up and down for reasons!

The Re-Gz’s weapons are great, but two of them annoy me. The beam rifle is awesome but almost always looks awkward in hand because of the stock and angled handle. But it does look really did in the one pose where the stock is pressed into the body. As for the shield, it does that thing where it pegs in under the shoulder. And I hate that.

That doesn’t mean it doesn’t look good though. I’m just being nitpicky.

In addition to the rifle and shield, a beam saber is included as well. Unlike in previous figures, this one is cast in clear plastic. Depending on who you ask, that’s either a good or bad thing. Me? I just see it as a thing.

It does make for some dynamic poses where the Re-Gz is striding beautifully through space.

Now there may be something that fans of the design may be wondering: Where is the BWS? The giant awesome backpack that the Re-Gz had? Well, Bandai did a particularly sneaky thing by releasing a premium version of the Assault Kingdom Sazabi which was basically a massive expansion pack for this and the Nu Gundam. Included were the BWS, an extra set of funnels, and a basketball. This is a major bummer and downside to the release. However as a standalone figure it’s still fine. It’s just a shame that even with all these accessories, it feels like an incomplete release.
