Shin Getter 1
Fewture is the Charles Dickens of Chogokin makers… they make the best of what we like in figure design and the worst of what we loath in terms of money and production issues. Like a moth to a flame, I purchase these bank account killers, and of course they create the “worst of times and best of times” in my collecting memories.
Shin Getter 1 was supposed to come out over a year ago. Design flaws, factory issues, etc., made it not come out until last month. The price inflated over time and the initial preorder price of $390 USD inflated all the way to $660 and more on most websites. It also must be said that it sold out, with preorders exceeding the amount retailers were willing to purchase.
I preordered mine from one of our “friends” here and got in the mail a week ago. Of course in addition to the Fewture robot it also came with a warning/instructions pamphlet on the flawed wings… sigh… which I followed, for all the good that did me.
Shin Getter 1’s boxes are larger than most Fewture releases and that is because of the extra tray. As a positive it does come with many items (almost too many).
Out of the box, I was impressed by its size and heft. It is heavy, and the great Shin Getter’s shapes are so much better in 12 inch size vs. Aoshima’s 8 inch.
Like most Fewture robots, you need to put on plates, choose a face (comes with two, both cool), insert the reactor (need to line up back to snap in right), attach the arm blades (need to push in until you here a pop), knee covers, etc… On this baby you also have to put the head on. No big deal, it is pretty easy (other than the arm blades).
Comes with the typical Getter Tomahawk…
…and scythe.
What is cool is the size of the weapons. They almost equal his whole body (and the bottom hooks seem to be diecast.. .hence the need for the rubber stopper to pose).
A new twist is a set of guns that transform into many variations.
They are cool and gives hours of posing fun, go Dirty Harry Shin Getter !
The stand does not directly clasp on the robot like Getter 1’s stand (which often chipped paint), however, that off the body design, makes the stand less stable.
Even with that flaw, with some minor tweaking and aligning of the stand groove, you can use the stand for everything from Superman Shin Getter to Matrix Shin Getter, and even Master of the Dance Shin Getter!
The wings are cool looking and I have not broken them yet, but between all the issues being published, I almost get a panic attack every time I use/pose them (the nervous shuffle I do in video is sad for me, funny for you). Update: Two days later was taking a couple more pictures and wing was not even on robot and it snap in my hand, no white marks…literally just happened. Fewture has post saying they will ship out new improved wings… wish me luck in getting some! I would say it is impossible not to break, no one could have handled more carefully than I did. If you buy on eBay make sure the seller agrees to contact Fewture, since they will be the buyer of record.
This Chogokin has some major issues with the wings (like I said, they feel well made, but don’t be fooled, they break in weird unavoidable ways)… and if I never get the improved ones, I will probably regret saying this, but I love the thing. Especially when It towers over its Aoshima brother. It looks so frackin cool…(remember Charles Dickens reference)
Shin Getter comes with five sets of fists: closed, open hand (thumb poses and comes off), claw (all fingers move and can come off), gun handled hands, and finally open hands to hold the axe/scythe.
You have to be careful to make sure fists are all the way in (or they fall off).
Nevertheless, the majority of the time, it holds poses great and you never really need that weird/stupid rubber stopper to rest the weapons on unless you do both at the same time.
The Shin Getter 1 ship is cool, diecast, and sits nice on its stand. It comes with red wings, and can fit the large “batlike” wings (for these pics my right wing broke… go figure).
Am I glad I own this? Yeah. Do I love it? Yeah, it looks so cool. The $$$$ I shelled out for it… like my love for the Code 3 stuff, I try not to think about it… would drive you mad! BTW, like I already stated, this assumes I get the new wings or all theses positive feelings break away as easily as the stupid wings did!
I did a plebeian at best video, it does a good job of discussing wing issues, and from my constantly repeating my word choice, you can tell how nerve racking displaying/attaching them can be, thank god the wing broke two days later or you might have had a video of a reviewer crying!.
