Spawn of Cthulhu

I grew up reading Lovecraft’s tales. They were set in a New England that I knew, at least hints of it were there on the seacoast. There was always a sense of mystery and history. So yeah, I was into Cthulhu.

Warpo came out with a line of Cthulhu action figures, complete with retro coloring book and commercials. They came out of the gate swinging, and had a great product line… then… nothing. These 4 figures and the giant Cthulhu were it. I wonder what happened?

I mean come on, they got KEN KELLY to do art for this series.

This particular figure is the Spawn of Cthulhu – not Cthulhu himself. But he’s very Cthulhu-like,

5 points of articulation in a retro style, with subtle paint washes.

The wings are a separate piece molded onto the back.

Of course he comes with a Necronomicon!

It’s a solid action figure, but I remember these pushing $20 each at retail, which was just too much in my opinion. I eventually found one for $10 and felt it was appropriate. Everyone needs a little Cthulhu in their life.
