Strongest Warrior

One of my great simple pleasures in life is to walk into a flea market or dollar store and find an unknown bootleg toy. Most often it’s ripoffs of Gundams or other generic robots, but every once in a while you find something completely new to you.

The Changeable Warriors is a recent discovery of mine, and for the life of me I cannot find out any info about them anywhere. Are they based on another line? Who knows? Who cares? I got two of these at a local discount store and by luck happened across the other at a local flea market. I was enthralled by the idea of an unknown train combiner and all together paid about $30 for them all.

The first thing to note here is that none of the trains seem to have individual names. The line we’re going to call “Changeable Warriors” and the combined form we will call “Strongest Warrior”.

CDX writer Siningy found some further info on the names, but be aware that these may just be another knockoff’s version of the names:

Red Train: Aurora Flame King (Jíguāng lièyàn wáng/极光烈焰王)
Blue Train: Shuttle Hurcules (Chuānsuō dàlì shén/穿梭大力神)
Yellow Train: Hornet Strider (Huángfēng shén xíng kè/黄蜂神行客)

The combined robot in China seems to be Special Warfare Diamond King (特战金刚王/Tè zhàn jīngāng wáng).

Each train comes on a blister card. While each card is the same on the front, the backs have unique instructions for each toy. Also notice the metal ring around the peg hole These things have CLASS.

Lets start with the Green Train.

In robot mode, he’s skinnier than the other two but fairly loose and floppy. Trying to get anything but a standing pose out of him is difficult. He features shoulder mounted cannons that can move up and down. The cannons are hollow, so maybe in their original incarnation they fired something.

Transforming to train mode looks something like this.

The train is an interesting design. It’s like an early electric train, maybe something from China in the 30s. Not a design you would think would be used, but I like it.

Each train also has a battle mode:

The red train is more of your traditional steam locomotive.

In robot mode he’s very blocky and top heavy. Still very loose in the joints, and the pegs that hold bits together don’t hold as tight as they should.

This one’s got shoulder mounted bombs that can be removed with the back assembly.

That peg in the middle means he’s happy to see you.

Train mode is a steam train, and I anxiously await the inevitable Thomas the Tank Engine repaint.

Battle Mode

The Yellow Train is the crappiest of the bunch. His robot mode barely holds together due to joints not being tight enough. I’m sure someone who cared could fix it, but I don’t.

The back unit is removable on this train as well.

Transforms.

Train mode is similar to the red train, but entirely different. Considering the functions of these two, they could have been simple identical repaints. Kudos to them for going the extra mile.

Battle Mode.

Now, lets see what kind of mess we can make when we combine all three into the STRONGEST WARRIOR.

The green train becomes the torso of the robot. A new head folds down over the single robot’s head.

Those backpack sections of the red and yellow trains slide onto the tabs on the green trains legs to become the lower legs of the robot.

The red and yellow robots become the arms, with their legs becoming the “hands” of the robot. The combine form is rickety and not as nicely lined up as shown on the packaging.

Still, it’s an interesting design that I have not seen before. Things don’t fit together quite right as the final form requires lots of sections to remain pegged together but there isn’t enough friction to keep them together with the added weight.

Each arm can move a little bit at the shoulders, and then bend at the elbows.

It’s kind of fun though. It’s a unique design and that alone is something. The amount of engineering in this compared to the build quality leads me to believe that there is a more legitimate version floating around somewhere.

When combined, Strongest Warrior stands about 10″ tall.
