Supergirl
In the early 2000s DC brought Supergirl back as a big character into the DC Universe along with a new ‘spin’ on the character as part of an effort to increase her overall appeal. She was made again into a genuine teenager but she was given a bratty Paris-Hilton type persona. This is the Supergirl wearing the modified Al Plastino costume, which is perfectly captured in this awesome 1/6 statue (10’inch tall) of Supergirl.
Statue is PVC and manufactured by Kotobukiya and distributed by DC Direct. Suggested Retail is 79.99 (but ebay prices can lowball at around 60).
Despite the very tantalizing and similar appearance to other Japanese style statues, this particular one lacks any cast-off pieces (which you would expect given that “Super” is part of the DC corporate brand) but the skirt is slightly adjustable. Comes with a Superman emblem style base.
Sculpt is awesome and has a very Japanese influence. From the fine nipples to the hair, the look on the eyes to the cape and musculature on her abdomen.
Footing for the statue is good. Peg on the base supports the feet well and even after a year of ownership they have yet to warp or show any sign of weakness.
Where the Kotobukiya Superman statue perfectly captures the heroic alpha male aspects, the awesome sculpt of the Supergirl statue captures the sexy essence of this version of Supergirl. In fact, the statue has so effectively done so that this statue has both inflamed the blogosphere and led to multiple reissues of this statue for sale by DC Direct.
