Tachikoma Blue
Early in 2013 I was looking for Tachikoma toys when I came across VF5SS`s review of the Tachi Yellow on the CDX Youtube page, it’s what first introduced me to CDX, thanks VF5SS.
So now I bring the original first series version of the Tachikoma in blue.
The box is the standard Revoltech window box, info in Japanese on 3 sides, logo and name on top and pictures of the toy on the back.
Inside the box in is Tachikoma with a bunch of accessories, first up a standard Revoltech stand, 5 hands, natural oil, hand extender, interface device, two mysterious white boxes with pegs on top, a wheel with a peg and a clear orange plastic box.
The Tachikoma itself can be broken up into several pieces, each leg can be removed at the top, the hands are on pegs, the cockpit in the abdomen, the “head” section/main body splits in half, the gun cover can be removed on this version.
The Tachi has 4 “eyes”, each looking like a white bowling ball with 3 dots.
Three of them are on the “head” and the fourth is under the cockpit.
These eyes can also be removed but the “head” eyes can be difficult to get out, the one on the cockpit is much easier to remove.
As with most Revoltech toys the articulation is good, each leg has a Revoltech joint at the top and a swivel joint at the “knee”, as this is the first version of the character the feet are molded wheels that don’t move, likely a decision to make posing easier.
The cockpit is on a slight swivel joint that can move up and down slightly and it can rotate if the back legs are out of the way, it’s held in pretty securely and the joints are tight so it won’t droop.
The arms have Revoltech joints at the top allowing for a good amount of movement, only having one joint is faithful to the character design.
None of the hands have articulation in the fingers but they can rotate at the wrist.
The stand can be plugged into the underside of the body, it holds the figure pretty well and is good for jumping poses.
The yellow version of the Tachi had its cannon locked off (as that is what happened to the character in the show), for the blue version you can pull the cap off the cannon to reveal it.
It’s not especially detailed and you don’t get the mini-gun add on shown in a few episodes.
The first set of hands are closed fingered, the second are open fingers revealing the palm machine gun weapon on the hands.
The left hand has black tips on the inside of the fingers, on mine I now have one tip missing as my rat Kaiju had a bite, see pictures.
The final hand is an extra right hand with an extended finger, made to hold things such as the natural oil can, seen in early episodes where Batou gives “his” Tachi natural oil and causes a few problems.
The interface device fits into the right gun barrel on the open hand, the device comes in a flat silver paint yet on the box it has a black wire.
I customized mine by colouring the wire black with a Sharpie.
I have trouble with the hand extender, I cannot for the life of me get any of the hand pegs into the end of it.
The pegs on the back of the hands are just too wide for the hole, I’ve included a close up of one of the pictures on the back of the box to show how this is supposed to look.
Those mysterious white boxes I mentioned earlier, one is a magnet, the other has wheels and a pull back action to make the Tachi move.
The magnet is strong enough to hold the Tachi even upside down, I don’t recommend it being anywhere near a computer, but it’s a great fridge toy.
My fridge has a wooden door attached to the front so you`ll have to do with pictures of it on my rat cage and towel heater.
The wheels fit under the Tachikoma, either under the body or replacing the fourth eye under the cockpit.
The single wheel can be fitted into the other hole for balance.
Lift the legs up slightly, pull back on the Tachi then let go and it should move pretty fast, mine tends to pull to the right.
As the Tachikoma’s are based on Jumping Spider’s they have two line shooters on the sides of the cockpit, these are reminiscent of webs.
The shooters are on a swivel joints and can be rotated 360 degrees.
I love the paint and detailing on the figure, a nice glossy blue with black detailing in the lines and panels.
On the cockpit the black line detailing has a dirty look to it, like it’s seen plenty of use.
Even the silver paint on the feet have a dirty look to them.
The clear orange box that comes with the set is for storing extra parts when you`re not using them, it has holes in the bottom that you can attach both the wheels to make a kind of rolling storage box (not pictured as I didn’t know it could do this when I took pictures).
This is one of three Tachikoma’s in this series, blue, yellow and silver.
If you have seen Stand Alone Complex you`ll know how awesome the Tachi’s are, childlike, faithful and always discussing philosophy and the meaning of being alive and having a “Ghost”.
They share the same memories and thoughts but are still able to recognize differences, Batou’s personal Tachikoma was always able to identify itself even though the others shared its memory.
There are a bunch of Tachikoma’s on the market, from the Revoltech figures to model kits, in varying sizes.
This version does not have the opening cockpit as some have, for me this is the only down point for this version, but it has a reasonable price point and is a quality toy.
