Baby Gin Gin

Brownnoize Productions is the name of CollectionDX and ToyboxDX’s very own Sanjeev’s efforts to keep super robot funk alive.  Without getting too personal, Sanjeev is an engineer by day, and a wizard at CAD and rapid prototyping.  Using these skills and a love for all things robot toy, he has quietly been churning away on a number of projects, including making custom one-off art pieces of the villain machine Gin Gin from his favorite super robot series, Grendizer.  The Foe-Gokin version has been seen at the Summit and is still underway, but in the meantime we have been treated to a great miniature representation of Gin Gin.

Sanjeev is a huge MUSCLE fan, so a MUSCLE-style Gin Gin was inevitable.  These guys also appeared at the 2011 Summit, and the remaining few are currently available at Lot F Gallery in Boston as part of the In Living Kolor Boston setup.

Baby Gin Gin comes in a typical little bag with a header card featuring animation stills from Gin Gin’s appearance.  The art is colorful and fun, just like the toy.  There’s no text muddling up the header, just pure, unadulterated super robot action.

As a MUSCLE-style figure, Gin Gin is pretty small, standing almost two inches tall.  Shown next to Wraith Pheyden, you get a sense for both how small he is and how sharp the design and paint are.

Since we’re talking about the details, it’s worth noting that these first painted Baby Gin Gins are not molded in resin, but are actually each a 3D-printed rapid prototype.  They have a decent weight to them, a flawless finish, and feel plenty durable.  Due to the fine details, I would not recommend sticking one of these in your pocket, but if he got knocked off a shelf I think he would be fine.  The back features the Brownnoize logo rather than the battle damage of the Foe-Gokin.

These guys were painted by Adam Pratt, a miniature painter and resin head, and they look great.  The colors are spot on, and the details are sharp.  A few minor flaws show up in these pictures, but keep in mind these are macro shots blowing the toy up around 10x on your screen.

The rest of these pics show show Gin Gin next to some other micro-sized toys, and he fits in great.  As a painted art-show custom I think he fits in better with other mini robot toys than with other MUSCLE figures, but I am sure we will see Sanjeev make more traditional unpainted styles.
