Griffon
While all the Ingram Labors are cool, if you’ve ever watched the entire Patlabor series, the one thing you take away from it is: WHY IS THERE NO GRIFFON TOY?
Well, your prayers have been answered.
I got the Type J-9 Griffon Revoltech from HobbyLink Japan. This figure is 20th in the Revoltech line which is still going strong, remaining innovative and releasing fan-favorite characters.
The Revoltech Series No.20 Real Robo Type Griffon (リボルテックシリーズNo.20 リアルロボタイプ グリフォン) is a sleek black fighting machine. In Patlabor, the Griffon is an experimental labor made by SHAFT Enterprises. It was designed to be the next generation of Labor, with flight and underwater capabilities. Noa Izumi and Section 2 frequently face off against the Griffon, in a fight to see which is the superior machine. Griffion is piloted by 15 year old prodigy Badrinath Harchand (a.k.a. Bud).
This figure is another top notch entry into the Revoltech line. Griffon is jointed in all the right places with the trademark ratcheted Revoltech Joints. This figure sports FIFTEEN Revoltech joints and only the hips are monoshaft. The neck of the Griffon uses the dual Revoltech joint and the wings each feature 2 joints.
There aren’t many accessories included with this figure, but the design makes up for it. Included are 5 hands (2 open, 2 closed, and 1 thumbs-up) and a two-part stand. The hands can be easily swapped out.
The wings on this figure are really nicely done. They each feature a Revoltech joint on the back and then another that allows the outer wing to move. The wings are a nice touch, and they are done well, but they do make the figure a little top heavy. It is best to use the included stand to pose this figure.
Revoltech joints aside, this thing simply looks badass. The sleek black design is amazing, and is a great toy even if you are not a Patlabor fan.
