Ultraman Gaia [V2]

Ultraman Gaia was the Ultraman series that ran from 1998 to 1999. One of the big differences between this show and the others is the fact that there are two protagonists: Ultraman Gaia and Ultraman Agul. Throughout the series, they are constantly bickering with each other because of plot developments, but are forced to come together and fight alongside one another as equals, except that the show is named after one of them.

In all honesty, I know almost nothing about Ultraman. Don’t get me wrong, I love the designs and Ultra Kaiju are deliciously amazing, but I never really got into the shows. I know, I know…

LET THE STONE THROWING COMMENCE!

So, here we have Ultraman Gaia [V2]. This is his upgraded form where he receives a black streak in his chest. From the snippets and videos I’ve seen on YouTube and the like, I can see that his suit is spot on with what’s in the show. Every detail appears to be in their respective places, and the silver paint looks really nice on him. I’m also completely in love with the sculpt of the figure. This is a new body for the Ultra Act line, and it appears to be more muscular and gorgeous than previous sculpts.

I guess I’ll talk about the accessories now. Gaia comes with a WHOLE BUNCH of doodads and trinkets to play around with. He has 3 and a quarter sets of hands, including fists, karate chop hands, RRRAAAAAAGE hands, and one piece of a hand that attaches to an effect part. He also comes with both a blue and a red timer, and a plug that fits into his back to allow you to attach a stand (not included). He also comes with THREE HEADS. One head is normal, another has a PHOTON EDGE effect part attached, and the other has LIGHT PIPING. I must say, I LOOOVE it when a figure comes with light piping. Granted, it’s not as shiny as some Transformers releases have been, but it gets the job done. The last accessory is his QUANTAM STREAM attack effect part. This is the familiar Ultraman “cross arms pose” attack that Gaia uses.

The articulation is acceptable, and standard Ultra Act fair, with ball joints and swivels almost everywhere. The biggest problem that I had with him was the lack of a real bicep swivel. Bandai opted to have a shoulder joint with an extra swivel instead, and it severely limits the articulation of the arms. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s definitely not something I would’ve preferred.

If you can overlook the limited arm articulation, you’ll find a figure that’s definitely worth a peek. With the mountain of accessories and pinpoint details, you basically can’t go wrong with picking this figure up! So what are you waiting for? Go get it!
