It’s no secret Gundam is the bread and butter for both Bandai and its many subsidiaries like Banpresto. You can’t throw a dead Newtype around without hitting some kind of V-finned merchandise. Banpresto is always filling prize machines across Japan with new Mobile Suit figures and in 2009 you could win yourself a nice V2 Gundam for your desk.

This is the Mobile Suit V Gundam DX Assembly Type V2 Gundam. Originally a UFO catcher prize, it was also made available at several retailers. The box is a simple, sturdy cardboard carton with the little carrying lanyard still attached.

There is a picture of the fully assembled piece on both the front and back.

Inside there are eight pre-painted pieces of PVC plastic along with the clear ABS stand that features a metal rod. Oddly enough all the parts were shoved into a tiny compartment at the bottom of the box. I assume that’s for protection when it drops from the crane game.

The whole thing comes together quiet easily, with all the parts being keyed to go together one way to avoid confusion. Once assembled you’ve got yourself an impressive figure of the V2 Assault-Buster Gundam. Seen towards the end of the series, this armored up V2 is ready to punch through the Zanscare army and strike at the heart of their Angel Halo weapon.

The piece is roughly eight inches tall from the base to the tip of the long-range beam cannon on its shoulder. Since the V2 Gundam is from an era of smaller Mobile Suits, it actually scales quite well with most Robot Damashii figures.

While the pose isn’t terribly exciting, the huge weapons and enhanced armor give the V2 an intimidating presence.

The paint and detailing is pretty good all around and the V2 hovers ominously thanks to the long metal rod that plugs into its crotch.

There’s some tasteful etched details in the clear plastic base.

There is a little bit of parts warping on mine figure with the yellow part of the V-Fin curving in a bit but nothing that can’t be fixed with some hot water.

It’s hard to see, but the V2’s Katoki designed steely gaze is represented with green painted eyes.

The Assault-Buster’s huge weapons really dominate the display.

Up top there’s a long-range beam cannon and the red rimmed beam spray pod.

For a hand carried weapon the V2 wields a Mega Beam Rifle that looks suspiciously like Katoki re-purposed it for Virtual On’s Temjin…

The weapon features a good amount of detail like on the scope and blast shield.

For defense the V2 carries a Mega Beam Shield.

It is accurately depicted as plugging into the existing beam shield emitter.

Overall the Mobile Suit V Gundam DX Assembly Type V2 Gundam is a cool, inexpensive representation of an intimidating looking machine. It’s a few years old at this point but can often be found for under ten dollars.
