W-Jeccar

Original MSRP: 0CHEAP

In my youth as a transforming robot enthusiast, I acquired many strange toys at various shops located somewhere in the hazy recesses of my memory. In the early 90’s, shops were still filled with hundreds of bootleg Transformers and other bizarre knock-off products all waiting for some eager child to take them home.

Over the years many of my cheap robots have fallen victim to the ravages of time, but one that has stuck around despite all odds. Thanks to the tireless effort of eccentric collector Butto, I now know the name of the toy that fascinated me for just a little while.

W-JECCAR!

W-Jecca, or Double Jetcar, starts off as a small pair of vehicles. Each is an amazing 80’s styled futuristic machine loving rendered in bright orange, white, and chrome plastic.

The first component is W-Jeccar Z (or 2 in the second release). This thinly disguised pair of legs looks just like the kind of RC car every little boy wants to buy. This variant has absolutely no paint-apps but the stickers are absolutely sublime in terms of simple functionality.

The second component is W-Jeccar V(or 1 in the second release). A much less obvious configuration of the robot’s upper body, this jet hits all the high notes of 80’s super technology with its delta wings and twin engines. It’s a real sleek design that is ready to dominate the stratosphere.

GATTAI!

He may not look like much, but W-Jeccar blew my little mind. There was something about the aesthetics, the colors, and the feet that screamed to me this was no ordinary Transformer. While you really can’t do much with W-Jeccar (you can move the arms), what you can do is have him stand stoically and look pretty.

A shot from the back reveals all the secrets of the transformation. Even so, his two components are very well matched.

His face was also another eye-opener for me. While it is a little mushy (and misaligned), these quasi-Gundam head was unlike anything I had ever seen before. And those shoulder stickers are total class.

I have no idea how I could ever find another one of these, but I am happy to have W-Jeccar.
