X-Ray Man

The X-Ray Man is one of the most iconic toys from my childhood, and I don’t remember if I even owned him? I had many Adventure People figures as a kid, and I always loved the space sets the most.

There was no story behind these figures. Just luminous clear beings, with sci-fi aesthetics. Was he an alien? A victim of an accident? Who knows! That was the great thing behind these toy lines – the stories were up to you.

X-Ray Man is basically the figure that comes with Sea Explorer, recolored with a new chest part.

Articulation is limited to the classic 5 POA – hips, arms and head. The head is on a ball joint which on some figures gets loose with age.

Adventure people would be used as the basis for prototypes of Star Wars figures – thus setting the scale and articulation for figures 50 years later.

One thing they didn’t have is holes in the feet for use with playsets, something I believe Kenner pioneered. As such, they are a bit tough to display. I resort to a bit of Blu-Tac on the soles for display.

Note the watch on the wrist, a lefover from the diver mold. You can also see the outline of the shorts on the legs.
